I’m interested in knowing how long it took for the operation, how much recovery time you needed, and how bad your vision was before the procedure. I’ve been wearing glasses for 40 of my 48 years on this planet, and I figure I’ve spent enough on them to pay for the operation. Also, is there a point at which the effects start to wear off (that is, when the vision starts going bad again)?
I had this procedure on one eye and laser on the other
in 1997
both eyes being hugely successful
before treatment my eye sight was -13.25 and -13.75
seriously bad eye sight
lasik eye treatment was made +1, which allows for normal degeneration as we age,
I had 20/20 vision almost immediately
12 years on, I have had slight deterioration due to age, [50 now]
best invention ever for me!
Still amazed to this day how great my sight is
is a bit painful, but well worth it
procedure is only a few minutes and wore a patch for the day
given pain medication
friend had it last Thursday, she worked Saturday and was still in a bit of pain Tuesday night. I recovered far quicker
I would say definitely go to a well know doctor and go for it
good luck
ps being extremely fortunate, Prof T Seller did one procedure
will be forever so grateful
I had PRK, which is kind of similar to Lasik, in December. I had worn hard contacts since I was 16 (I am now 31). My vision was 20/1250 and had astigmatisms in both eyes. The doctor opted for the PRK instead of Lasik because it supposedly decreases the chance of having glaring at night, which is common with Lasik. The actual time the laser was zapping my eye was about 36 seconds per eye (I heard the assistant counting down). It took the doctor about 5 minutes or so to get everything marked and coordinates put into the laser. You have to stare at this flashing light, although it disappears when he lifts off the flap on your eye. It’s somewhat uncomfortable for those of us like myself who are claustrophobic. He gave me pain meds and sleeping pills. I tried to keep myself in a dark quiet room for a week. I had a little trouble with double vision for a few days, and one eye was healing faster than the other. But…it’s been 3 months and I feel great! I can see 20/20. It’s absolutely amazing. I still reach for my glasses when my alarm goes off…that may take a while to undo. I defintely think you should go for it. You’ll be satisfied in the end.
