If someone could provide an educated opinion on the topic I’d appreciate it. My LASIK surgeon recommended either the Bausch & Lomb 217Z (flying spot) or the Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix (custom wavefront). When I search for articles on the web, all I get are articles promoting one or the other, but I cant find a comparison. It seems like the Zypotix comes higher recommended but is it worth an extra $800? Or is the improvement between custom wavefront over flying spot worth it?
Regarding Lasik Surgery, Is Custom Wavefront Lasik Worth $800 More Than Flying Spot Technology?

it totally depends on your Rx and pupil size.
Rx over say -4.50 and/or large pupil size: need the expensive one
Rx under about -4.00 *AND* small or average pupil size: cheaper one is likely fine
The flying spot laser ( Nidek?) is a good laser, old technology but I would only have that done on my eyes if I had a small rx to begin with. You do have a higher chance of having issues driving at night ( glare) With custom you greatly reduce that risk., i was not a candidate for custom so was treated with the B&L standard. If you have the option I would go with the VISX custom ( it wasnt available to me at the time) it is the best in my opinion and worth the extra money, a lot of lasik centers I know and have worked for have changed from the B&L to Visx.
Good Luck to you
