Yes a 20 year old can have lasik. Before you schedule you will want your Rx to be stable. If your eyes are still changing before lasik, they will continue after lasik, and you will be back into contacts within a couple of years. Around 20 the eyes start to stablize, but not for everyone. For some, the eyes change their whole lives. Consult the doc who gave you the contacts at your next visit, they can tell you if your eyes have been relatively stable. Contacts do not make lasik more painful although the surgeon will want you out of them 1-2 weeks before surgery.

I think you are ok to do it… I do’t think your eyes change much until your 40’s… what you want to amke sure though is that you find someone who has done LOTS and LOTS of surgeries – I heard a story on NPR about a person who lost their eyesight from a doc who didn’t klnow what they were doing. I know this is rare… but be safe when choosing – good luck!

My father had lasik eye surgery a few years ago and he is very satisfied, but ever since the surgery he has to wear reading glasses, which he didn’t before the surgery.

I’ve been wearing glasses for about 5 years, lenses for one..
As far as I know you should be at least 16 to get lasik done, after that age probably doesn’t matter. But anyway you MUST be sure of that by asking one or more physicians. -well qualified ones
For all I know it’s not harmful, not really painful, very quick and some prefer it to eyeglasses. I don’t anyway..
