There is little or no pain during the surgery itself. Afterwards, you may experience a few hours of discomfort — your eyes may feel irritated. It will likely be mild irritation. Request that you be given a Xanax pill an hour or so before the surgery; that will relax you and make you feel better, although quite drowsy. Of course, you’ll be given drops in your eyes that will take care of most of the pain of the surgery.

I had it done about 1 1/2 months ago. The actual surgery isn’t painful, they numb your eye, plus I got a tylenol and valium. After the surgery they give you a sleeping pill which should knock you out for about 4 hrs. It did knock me out but I did wake up a few times in horrible pain, it felt like their was sandpaper scratching my eyes. I took some more aspirin, fell back asleep and after the four hours woke up could see perfectly and it didn’t hurt at all.
Some people complain that their eyes get dry and that hurts a bit but I haven’t had that experience. Even though the four hours after the surgery were painful, I’m thrilled with being able to see sans glasses.

i had told patients for years that it didnt hurt…
but it was surprisingly uncomfortable. “pain” is pretty subjective, however. does getting a tattoo hurt? depends on who you ask.
    for me…YES on both.

if they dont numb your face before the surgery it will hurt. imagine a laser burning your eye and youll get the idea.
