Watch a video about it first. It’s kind of graphic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PJ391MDt…
It can have some pretty bad side effects. Sometimes it can be over corrected, and then you’ll still be stuck with glasses. Sometimes the results will wear off. And rarely, it can blind you.
If you’re squeamish about surgery, then contacts would be your best option.
Hi,
You are going to have to cut through the bollocks that has already been mentioned in response to your answer. Interesting how those that haven’t had it done speculate the most!
1. Laser eye surgery CANNOT make you blind – not once, not ever.
2. Laser vision correction performed by competent surgeons will still have some risks associated. Contact lens wear carries a risk of blindness as well as a much higher risk of cornea destroying infections** than laser treatment does. Factor in dry eye inducement, neovascularisation, corneal abrasions etc etc (If the thought of undergoing surgery worries you, then run a Google Image search on the following : Pseudomonas eye, Acanthamoeba eye).
In order to establish what laser vision correction can and cannot do for you, it is necessary to undergo a consultation. Until one knows all the parameters of your eyes, health etc it is impossible to give directly applicable information. The following URL will give you more information on typical risk factors and implications : http://www.accuvision.co.uk/risks.html
Good luck
**[[Acanthamoeba keratitis is a rare but very painful and potentially blinding infection of the cornea, the transparent covering at the front of the eye. The infection rate is approximately one in 30,000 contact lens wearers and in around 85% of cases the condition is associated with contact lens use. (www.college-optometrists.org)]]
contacts are ok, and after some practise they’re easy to put in and take out!
I have astigmatism and couldn’t see very well with soft contact lenses (not well enough to drive), and i didn’t want hard contact lenses.
I wore glasses since i was 4 yrs old and i felt that they ruined my self confidence so i started wearing contacts when i was about 13/14. When i started drinking excessively and sleeping in my contacts they ruined my eyes and i was told not to wear them anymore, but i still used them until i found that i couldn’t read a number plate for my driving test (aged 18) and then i had to buy some glasses.
At about the age of 21/22 ish i went for Lasik. They would only do one eye and then a week later they’d do the other eye. They did the left eye 1st and on the way home (about a hour later) i could read number plates on the M1. It was amazing! A week later i went for the right eye, and basically what they do it numb the eye, clamp it open so you can’t blink, cut the front of eye and flap it open then lazer what they need to inside, then flap the front of the eye back in place, and the suction of the eye holds it in place. When they clamped my eye and were putting the flap back in place i blinked and the front of the eye slid down like wallpaper. I was too sore for them to have a better look at it so i went home, but then the next day i had to go back for them to do it again. My vision is fine now. I wouldn’t say they were perfect and the right one is not as good as the left. My night vision is also not that great, but overall i’m very happy and would definitely do it again!
I was short sighted -7 in both eyes. The procedure wasn’t very painful apart from the one that went wrong that hurt a lot. and i’m 33 now, so this was 12 yrs ago and they’re still fine. The best thing i ever did!
there are side effects but im not sure what they are sorry. i wanted lasik eye surgery but then my friend told me what they do
but if you really want it done, then i don’t think i should tell you because its kinda gross x
The best thing to do is go for a consultation…And the doctor will determine if you are a candidate. I think you should start of wearing contact lenses. They will train you on how to put it in and out. Have a great day!
Scraping off a layer of the cornea. Very short term procedure. After 10 years you’ll be right back in glasses. Just use contacts, they’re not bad at all.
