Does Having Bad Eye Sight Mean That You’re Going To Go Blind Without Lasik Surgery?

I have pretty bad eye sight right now; -6 in my right eye, and -6.5 in my left eye. I’m terribly worried that I’m going to go blind :(

while -6.00 and 6.50 is bad, your not blind! Ive seen all the way to -12.00 and -13.00! It just means that the way your eye is shaped it needs adjusment to help light hit your optic nerve properly….contact your eye Dr. if you feel like your eye sight is getting worse over a short period of time, but otherwise i would not worry.

Just so you know, you are not blind until you cannot see the big E on the chart with all the correction possible. i.e. wearing glasses and still not seeing the E. -6.00 and -6.50 isn’t that bad. In my job, I’ve seen people with WAY worse vision than that. Yours isn’t that uncommon. Don’t worry.

    Not necessarily.
Depending on the condition that makes your eyesight poor. If you know your diagnosis, then you must have spoken to your eye doctor about your options already.
Lasik surgery is not always permanent, but it is pretty safe. If you’re going through with it, be sure to research your surgeon first.

I was -8.25 and -7.75…just a condition called myopia. I was correctable to 20/20. You’re not going to go blind…at least not from being nearsighted.
If you have other eye conditions, and this is only something that an eye doctor can tell you, that can decrease your vision. In that case, LASIK will NOT help, and most likely if you have eye diseases surgeons will not perform LASIK surgery.
Myopia doesn’t mean that you are going to go blind…just need some extra help to focus the light onto the retina necessitating the need for glasses/contacts, and after age 18-25 (depending on the LASIK surgeon) a consultation can be done to see if you are even a candidate for LASIK, which is not a guarantee that another eye condition or eye injury could make your vision poor.
