If the parents of a child both had laser eye surgery before the child was born, would the child have perfect vision as well?
Stupid question, I know. Just wondering if it’s right
Can Lasik Surgery Change Your Dna?

Don’t you remember from school? No question is a stupid question!
No. Lasik is considered more of a cosmetic change. “Alterations” are made to the cornea to correct a refractive error….it does nothing to alter DNA. ….. It’s similar to this: If both parents have nose jobs it will not effect the appearance of their child’s nose.
If both parents are nearsighted, the child has a one and three chance of being nearsighted. It does nothing on a genetic level.
90% of all nearsighted and farsightedness is genetic according to most recent studies. There is some debate about how much environment play a roll…and this is post birth.
This website talks about genetics and how it relates to nearsightedness. Above stats obtained from there.http://ww.thetech.org/genetics/ask.php?i…
No. One has nothing to do with the other.
LASIK surgery does not deal with genes, therefore even if a couple who was originally nearsighted had LASIK, their children would be more pre-disposed to being nearsighted because of genetic inheritance.
Heehee. This reminds me of a joke where a mother worked out alot during pregnancy so her child would be really muscular…
No, Lasik is an operation that physically changes your eyes, not moleculary changes them. Your children will still have bad eyes, unfortunately, if you and your spouse both do.
I’m not sure wether it can change your own DNA in your somatic (body) cells (radiations such as UV or X-rays can change DNA). However, even if it did, it would make no difference to the child since acquired characteristics are not transferred genetically to children. Only DNA changes occurring in gametes (eggs and sperm) are passed on to children.
no and no
No, it will make no difference on the baby.
If a woman is pregnant do not get Lasik, It wont hold.
Your body is changing to much and your eyes will shift and the laser wont work.
Not as a result from the parents having LASIK.
It is possible that the child from parents who have had poor eyesight will have perfect vision, or not.
LASIK is a structural eye procedure.
DNA comes from the gene sequences that live in every single cell in our bodies, something that was predetermined when our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and so on were born.
There are no medical studies that indicate Lasik surgery will change a person’s DNA or the genetic disposition of offspring. Lasik is similar to breast implants or rhinoplasty (nose job). It only affects the parts of the body having surgery.
